Bayern is sure to win? Wirtz's transfer is still undecided

While Bayern Munich remains confident about Florian Wirtz's future, firmly believing the 22-year-old German midfielder will join them this summer or by 2026 at the latest, the reality is far less certain. Recently, the Wirtz family traveled to England, sparking speculation about a potential move to Liverpool. Bayern's supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß personally confirmed that Wirtz's trip was indeed "to Liverpool," dismissing any notion of baseless rumors.

Liverpool's interest should not be underestimated. Reports indicate that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) executives even traveled to Boston to secure dedicated transfer funds for Wirtz. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has re-entered the race, further complicating the young star's future.

Bayern, while maintaining their composure—with sporting director Max Eberl stating, "The art lies in handling things calmly"—are well aware that a prolonged battle with Bayer Leverkusen is unfolding. Bayern are willing to pay €100 million for Wirtz, but Leverkusen's valuation stands at €150 million, creating a significant gap. If no agreement is reached this summer, Bayern may be forced to wait until 2026 to complete the transfer.

Notably, Wirtz himself has yet to make any definitive statements. His performance in the season finale remained focused and composed, showing no signs of distraction amid the transfer rumors. His parents have also not informed Leverkusen whether he is willing to honor his contract until 2026. With his current deal expiring in 2027, staying until 2026 could mean witnessing the dismantling of Leverkusen's current double-winning squad.

Bayern, meanwhile, are pushing forward with their summer plans. In addition to Wirtz, the signing of center-back Jonathan Tah has been approved by the supervisory board, though a three-year contract still needs finalizing. Talks over Dayot Upamecano's extension continue, while Min-jae Kim awaits offers from abroad. On another front, Leroy Sané's contract negotiations have stalled after he rejected Bayern's latest offer following a change in representation.
